The Darkness Before:
In the time before creation, before the Planes were formed, before magic had weaved itself into the Fabric of existence, there was nothing. For how long this nothingness persisted, there is no answer. Both forever and no time at all. Then, Gods and Scholars alike agree, there suddenly was.
The First Era:
Divine Light entered the dark nothingness, and in the most unimaginably briefest of moments, the Cosmos were formed. The Elemental Inner Planes were first, the wisdom of the Gods creating them as though by habit: Fire, Air, Water, and Earth, forming themselves into the chaotic amalgamation of elements, infinitely spreading into the form known now by scholars as the Inner Sphere. Where the planes crossed, secondary elements beginning to take form. Then the Positive and Negative planes were formed, as the deeper natures and desires of these new gods became even more apparent, forming the tertiary elements. From this new combination of chaotically entwined elements, the First World was formed, a random mixture of colour and sound. The Gods then saw it fit to shatter the first world, for, in order to tame it, they must first break it. Thus, the Shadow and Material planes were formed, and the story of Aengor begins.
The Gods spent many a year sculpting the Material plane, forming the young and malleable existence into something they might work with. Forests were raised then razed, Mountains formed and fell, Caves were carved and collapsed as the Gods saw fit to both create and destroy. Throughout this time, new gods arrived in Aengor as well. Some created by the will of others, some just appearing from nothingness, as though created by their own will to exist. And as time went on, and the world was created, the gods withdrew, became more selective about their interactions with the Materials Plane, and began construction on the Heavens and Hells of the Outer Sphere.
Exactly why the Gods began to withdraw is not entirely known to modern scholars or clergy. Many believe that they in their infinite wisdom, had become satisfied with their creation in the Material Plane, and went forth to create more perfect and complete realms in the Outer Sphere. Others say that the Gods grew tired of the constant bickering and competing that took place upon the Material Plane, and made a pact to retreat to their own individual realms, formed piece by piece from materials gathered from the Inner Planes, in order to avoid future conflict. Still, others claim that it was neither of these and that the Gods did not idly decide to leave the Material Plane, but rather fled, from some malignant force. Regardless, the answer is lost to time. What scholars do know, is that by the time the First Soul was grown from the Light of the Positive Energy Plane, the Gods had left the Material Plane, never again to return to it. At least not directly.
The Second Era:
From the birth of the first soul, the Material Plane was never the same. Many races claim ownership of this first soul, claiming that theirs was the first race to step foot upon the terrain of Aengor, however such is a highly disputed fact, that even the gods cannot agree upon. What is known however, is that after the birth of the first, life on Aengor exploded, with the Gods creating races and animals, one after another, without stop. Dwarves sprung forth from the mountains, Humans emerged from forests, Irithyll climbed out of veins of Mithral. Across Aengor, there was sound and joy as life flourished free.
